Diamond Willow opens new units -- Leases now available for Soo Line

Diamond Willow Advanced Care Assisted Living is readying to open its second unit in Detroit Lakes.

"We try to incorporate the best features we all enjoy within our own homes," said Diamond Willow CEO Natalie Zeleznikar of the assisted living facility. "Seniors are able to smell the baked items fresh from the oven, enjoy a cup of coffee by the fireplace, interact with the house-dog Jesse, or enjoy the entertainment in the community room, which overlooks Big Detroit Lake."

Featuring 10 private rooms with private bathrooms, Detroit Lakes Diamond Willow residents also have the opportunity to decorate their space with individual furniture and their own memorabilia, noted the CEO.

Offering two wings with 10 private rooms in each, the Burlington home and the Soo Line units are attached via a community room that is available for family parties, entertainment and community events.

Each home also has their own core staff to allow the seniors and family members the opportunity to create relationships with a primary staffing model, added Zeleznikar.

"Our theme in Detroit Lakes is trains because of our location to the train tracks so we have paintings of trains and such in our buildings. Our other 10-plexes have different themes indigenous to the area they area located like farming, lakes, trees, etc."

Diamond Willow's first community home opened in 2004 in Proctor, Minn. Since that time, six more have been added, modeled on that first Proctor prototype. Diamond Willow Assisted Living homes now take up residence in the communities of Baxter, Cloquet, Grand Rapids, Mountain Iron, Park Rapids, Proctor, Detroit Lakes and soon Little Falls.

"We care for seniors with various degrees of physical and medical care as well as memory needs for those with Alzheimer/dementia requirements," added Zeleznikar. "Our goal is to get away from the large institutional-like settings of traditional nursing homes and provide small 10-plex settings with more personalized levels of care.

With state-of-the-art whirlpools, central great rooms with a stone fireplace, sprinkler system, fire alarm monitoring system and 24-hour awake staff, Diamond Willow Assisted Living's custom homes come with a variety of amenities and are inspected by the Minnesota Department of Health routinely.

"We are pre-leasing for the opening of Soo Line Suites, which will open early summer of 2008. Call 847-6900 or log on to for more information.
