West Fargo's Bobcat cutting back production

WEST FARGO - West Fargo-based Bobcat Co. said today that it will be cutting back production - resulting in a work stoppage for employees - at North Dakota plants in Gwinner and Bismarck starting March 6 due to weakened demand for construction equipment.

Employees have been told that production will not take place at the Gwinner plant on March 6, 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27. Production at the Bismarck plant will be halted on March 11-13 and 18-20, said Nikki Bruce, Bobcat spokeswoman.

Bruce said employees will not work or be paid during production cutback days and are eligible to apply for unemployment benefits during that time.

Combined, the two locations employ about 2,000 people.

In December, all employees were laid off for eight weeks due to the troubled economy and returned to work Feb. 16.
