Bell State Bank & Trust raised $5,525 for United Way organizations in the communities it serves through its Tweet it Forward Twitter Promotion.

Twitter users were asked to tweet or retweet #BellBanksPIF2012 and Bell State Bank & Trust would donate $5 for each tweet or retweet to help those in need.

A total of 1,105 tweets were sent during the promotion period, which ran Oct. 17-Nov. 15.

United Way organizations receiving funding include United Way of Cass-Clay, United Way of Douglas & Pope Counties, United Way of Becker County, United Way of Otter Tail County, United Way of Richland/Wilkin Counties and Greater Twin Cities United Way.

This is the fifth year that Bell State Bank & Trust's employees will give back to the community through a unique project -- the opportunity to Pay It Forward to those in need. Since 2007, each full-time employee receives $1,000 and each part-time employee receives $500 each year to help others -- a total commitment of more than $500,000.

Pay It Forward has become a year-round tradition for the employees, as they carefully consider the many needs in communities, and the world, and choose how they want to use their Pay It Forward funds. To date, the bank has given away more than $2.5 million to people in need and to causes employees care about.
