Lodge on Lake now Best Western Premier

The Lodge on Lake Detroit is now the Best Western Premier The Lodge on Lake Detroit, after earning the "Best Western Premier" descriptor from the World's Biggest Hotel Family.

By converting from an independent hotel to a Best Western, The Lodge on Lake Detroit represents the ninth Best Western Premier opened in North America and the first in the Midwest by the iconic hotel chain since launching its three-descriptor strategy in 2011.

"Best Western Premiers" offer guests upscale amenities and a refined experience.

"Hotels that earn the 'Premier' descriptor typically have a 3-plus Diamond rating from AAA, and have a distinct and memorable style, often influenced by their local region," said David Kong, Best Western International president and CEO.

"We offer the great service and value that Best Western is known for," said the hotel's owner, Scott Mehlhaff, "and in addition we provide extras such as a full service day spa, The Spa Within, two meeting rooms, a lobby bar, monthly wine tasting dinners, murder mystery events, live music in our lakefront, fireside lobby."

The hotel was recently awarded the Sustainable Tourism Award by Explore Minnesota Tourism, for it's eco-friendly efforts such as in-room recycling, exterior grounds rain gardens and Restore the Shore plantings that encompasses over 10,000 native plants, use of organic products, and more.

"We were extremely proud to be the first Best Western in North America to display the 'Best Western Plus' sign and now the first Best Western in Minnesota to display the 'Best Western Premier' sign, said Chris Holland-Mehlhaff, third generation owner and a second generation Best Western Governor.

Scott and Chris Mehlhaff also own and operate Best Western Plus Superior Inn & Suites in Grand Marias, Minn.
