Who wouldn't love a superhero platypus pet to save the city?

With his jaw-dropping skill, his ability to have two identities and status as a boy's best friend, there is no question why Perry the Platypus (from the Disney Channel's cartoon Phineas and Ferb) is my idol. Every day he defeats Heinz Doofenshmirtz while Dr. Doofenshmirtz tries to take over the tri-state area with his "evil" schemes.

Cluelessness is Doofenshmirtz's forte. He's been busy devising plans to put everyone in Danville into invisible boxes (trying to rid the world of mimes), or making a wood magnet- to deprive Danville from all its wood of course. Doofenshmirtz thinks up very complicated plans when he could do the same thing with a much simpler action.

I guess it's what you expect from someone who purchased their doctorate online.

Right at the height of excitement, Perry the Platypus shows up. He doesn't crash through windows, or break down doors; he knocks on the door (polite gentleman that he is) and then crashes through it. He then walks into a trap Dr. Doofenshmirtz cleverly put up. Getting out of it is simple -- all he has to do is slip his arms out.

In case you haven't noticed, Dr. Doofenshmirtz isn't the brightest crayon in the box.

Have you heard of the "new" invention? It's called a BO-AT (Buoyancy Operated Aquatic Transport). I heard that it's a car that can drive on water. Revolutionary! Maybe if we're lucky, we'll get them in Detroit Lakes. Then we can drive them around on those lakes we have around here.

When Doofenshmirtz invented it, he was planning on flooding Danville. Hopefully we won't need them for getting out of flood purposes.

But of course the semi-aquatic mammal of action known as Agent P saves the day. He foiled Doofenshmirtz's plan by opening Danville's emergency M.O.A.T. (Metropolitan Oval Aquatic Trench,), which caused all the water to go around Danville. Once again, Perry is the hero.

Perry's owners, Phineas and Ferb, make these really cool inventions every day. Unlike Dr. Doofenshmirtz, they only invent things for fun. Their first project was a rollercoaster. It was not just any rollercoaster though. It went into space, to France, to China, to Canada and to the local grocery store. The charge was a dollar a person, one ride only.

Various projects include making their whole backyard into a beach, or going around the Earth in 24 hours (they had until their parents got home from visiting Grandma and Grandpa), an exoskeleton to help their sister's boyfriend dance and finding an ancient mummy.

Their sister, Candace, always tries to bust her brothers. She sees what Phineas and Ferb are doing -- well she never actually knows what they are doing. She sees them outside and instantly freaks out and calls their mom, Linda. She is used to these calls so she answers the phone, waits for Candace to finish screaming her head off and then says hello.

The incredibly cool inventions always end up disappearing. It's not a coincidence that they are gone before Linda can get there by getting zapped, picked up or disintegrated by one of Doofenshmirtz's death rays.

Sometimes Perry has to steal the projects for Phineas and Ferb's safety. Whether Doofenshmirtz is trying to blow it up, or blowing something up just by accident, Perry is always there.

Like Phineas says, "Platypus is boys' best friend." A pet platypus that saves a whole city, knows karate and has a beaver tail and a bill sounds like a pretty good pet to me.

Who knows? Maybe someday I'll get a superhero platypus as a pet. Most likely not, but hey, I can dream.
