Library exchanges late fees for food

"The Three Faces of Eve" by Corbett Thigpen was first published in 1957. A copy of Thigpen's classic book was checked out from the Moorhead Library with a date due stamp of Sept. 12, 1983.

Moorhead Library did not see the book again until it was returned on July 17, 2006. That's just 22 years, 10 months and five days overdue.

The late fee at the time it was due would have been $1. In 2006, when it was returned, the fine had increased to $2.

Bring your overdue library material back to the library with a non-perishable food item and they will erase your late fee this holiday season.

Lake Agassiz Regional Library will accept "Food for Fines" throughout November and December 2011 at all of its 23 locations.

Library customers are encouraged to return overdue library materials (books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and Books on CD) and pay overdue fines with donations of non-perishable food items that will be gifted to local food banks throughout our Northwest Minnesota region.

Support this worthwhile effort regardless of whether or not you have a fine. It is a wonderful opportunity to help those in need and celebrate the many services provided by Lake Agassiz Regional Library.

Any donation of unexpired, non-perishable food is welcomed.

One non-perishable food item equals $2 fine waived. But, it is not valid for lost items or replacement charges.
