1676 VFW, Auxiliary host essay contests

This year's Voice of Democracy theme was "Is our Constitution still Relevant?"

Krista Leak, daughter of Jerry and Felicidad Leaf, placed first in the Voice of Democracy contest and was given a $100 award from the VFW Post 1676.

Cheyann Vareberg, daughter of Lynn Hendrick, placed second and received an award of $75.

The contest is sponsored by VFW Post 1676 and Auxiliary of Detroit Lakes.

A cassette tape of Krista Leaf's winning speech was entered into competition at the district level.

An awards banquet was held Dec. 12 in the VFW Post Home 1676.
