Arts council looking to award small grant

Artists, would you like to expand your artistic knowledge, talent or supplies?

Then the LRAC/McKnight Artist Small Grant might be right for you.

The Artist Small Grant will provide $500 in funding to: purchase new supplies to create a new body of work, purchase sound equipment to enhance your performing, attend a workshop or training to learn a new technique or dig deeper into your art, begin a marketing campaign to get the word out about you and your art, purchase equipment to expand your office into a studio (computer purchases are not permitted), pay for travel and living expenses as you study with a mentor or take a workshop, hire an editor to develop your manuscript, poetry or novel, or stage a performance to launch your new music, play or production.

The applications are now being accepted in Becker, Clay, Pope, Stevens, Traverse and Wilkin counties. If you are a practicing artist, musician, writer, dancer, performer, photographer, etc., 18 years or older, and a LRAC resident for at least six months, then you are eligible to apply for the LRAC Artist Small Grant.

This year, the Otter Tail County Artist Small Grant recipient is Elizabeth Sweder, Fergus Falls. Liz will be working with memoir editor, Angela Foster, to develop her literary work into a finished manuscript for publication.

She is writing a memoir of growing up in a lively but conflicted family.

"Since I have discovered how much I enjoy writing, I'm looking forward to writing more creative non-fiction pieces with potential for publication," Sweder said.

"Art can be very frustrating, but on occasion I have 'A Golden Day.' Mostly I paint to please me and if someone else likes it that pleases me too," said Millie Conard, Douglas County Artist Small Grant recipient.

The LRAC Artist Small Grant application is available online at the LRAC website Follow the link from the Grant heading to Apply and create a logon profile.

You will need an artistic resume and samples of your art work for the application as well.

The deadline for the first round of the LRAC Artist Small Grant is March 31.
