Cemetery Walk: The Becker County Museum and Lake Park Lutheran Church are joining forces to host a Cemetery Walk at 6:30 p.m. in the Lake Park Lutheran Cemetery. Come and hear the history of people from various walks of life and time periods, from immigrants, county commissioners, pastors and more. Senior Driver Safety Class: A defensive driving four-hour refresher class for seniors will be held at the Perham Public Library from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Please call Denise Lillis at 218-345-3336 to register.

Detroit Lakes NARFE: Detroit Lakes Chapter 1842 of the National Active & Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will hold their regular meeting at noon in the Holiday Inn Lakeside in Detroit Lakes. All Federal retirees and current Federal employees are invited to attend. Christian Women's Club: The Detroit Lakes Christian Women's Club meets at noon in the American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive. The picnic-style potluck luncheon will include a presentation, "Life Can Change in a Moment," by Jean Bruton of St. James, Minn. Cost is $6 per person (all inclusive). Aqua Chautauqua: The University of Minnesota Extension, Becker County Museum and a handful of other local organizations and businesses are joining forces to host this three-hour, water-themed educational entertainment program focused on the Otter Tail River Watershed. The festivities start at 5 p.m. in Dunton Locks County Park, 14821 County Highway 19, Detroit Lakes. There will be shuttle service and concessions available; contact the Becker County Museum at 218-847-2938 for more information.

Friday, August 10

Firefighters Street Dance: The Detroit Lakes Volunteer Fire Department will host a street dance on West Lake Drive in front of Lakeside Tavern. Gates open at 7:30 p.m., with the band 32 Below taking the stage at approximately 8:30. There is no cost to attend; a donation to support the fire department is recommended in lieu of an admission fee.

Pig Roast: The Elbow-Tulaby Lakes Fire Department will host its annual pig roast from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall on County Highway 113. Everybody is welcome. Fun Fungi and Mushroom Workshop: John Lamprecht, president of the Minnesota Mycological Society, will guide participants on a mushroom identification journey at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge from noon to 5 p.m. This half-day workshop is designed to help you develop the skills and confidence to begin collecting, identifying and safely eating wild edible mushrooms.The first part of the class will be indoors, followed by a foray into the woods for a hands-on learning experience. Mud Run: The Upper Midwest Mud Racers Association will host a Mud Run in New York Mills at 130 North Boardman Ave. Gates open at 9 a.m., registration goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and races start at 3 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, ages 7 and up (free to those age 6 and under); add a pit pass for $5 more. Vacation Bible School: Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church will be hosting its 2018 Vacation Bible School, "Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus," from Sunday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m. daily. The programs, which are geared toward children ages 4-13, will be offered free of charge; however, an offering will be taken each evening to support a missions effort to supply food for the people of Haiti. Plant, Pest & Gardening Clinics: The Becker County Master Gardeners will once again be hosting their Plant, Pest & Gardening Clinics throughout the month of June at the local University of Minnesota Extension office, 1120 Eighth St. SE, Detroit Lakes. Fair Hills Hootenanny: Every Tuesday from now through Aug. 21, Fair Hills Resort will be hosting a Hootenanny show filled with sing alongs, music, dancing, and skits. Make an evening of it; join us for a boat cruise on Pelican Lake aboard the Big Pelican at 5 p.m., followed by a smorgasbord dinner in the dining room at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m. in our lakeside Pavilion! Tuesdays in the Park: Every Tuesday from June through August, Habitat for Humanity will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, beans, potato salad and beverages in the Detroit Lakes City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. Following the meal, live music begins at 7 p.m. and lasts for approximately an hour, though some performers do continue to play a little later into the evening. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket, as bench seating is limited. In case of inclement weather, both the picnic and the concert will be moved inside the Pavilion.

Wild Wednesdays: Explore the world of nature with your child during this hour-long adventure geared for 3-7 year olds. Meets at Tamarac's Discovery Center every Wednesday this summer, June through August, starting at 10 a.m. For more information please contact Refuge staff at 218-847-2641.

Detroit Lakes Area Pickleball: The outdoor pickleball courts at Peoples Park in Detroit Lakes are now open for the season. Everyone is welcome to use one of the five outdoor courts, which are located just behind Zorbaz. They will be open to the public 24 hours a day, but scheduled play will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Monday through Saturday, as well as on Monday and Thursday evenings starting at 7 p.m. All skill levels welcome. Tamarac Wildlife Excursions: Explore Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of the refuge on this two hour driving tour. Shepherd of the Lakes Sunday Worship: Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church (LCMC) is now hosting Sunday worship services in Suite 15 of the Washington Square Mall, 808 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes, starting at 10 a.m. each Sunday. Fellowship with coffee and rolls will follow the service.

L.A. Moms group: Lakes Area (L.A.) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A. Community Alliance Church programs: Community Alliance Church, Detroit Lakes, hosts Quilting for Missions Mondays at 9:30 a.m.; The first Tuesday of every month is High Mileage (suggested ages 55 and up), which meets for "pot-blessing" meal at noon, followed by special music and a Bible nugget.

Bone Builders: An exercise class for seniors called "Bone Builders" is being held at 405 W. Maple Ave. in Frazee, Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.; the Lake Park City Center every Tuesday and Friday at 10:15 a.m.; and also at the Vergas Event Center, Thursdays at 9:30.a.m. The group focuses on low-impact and balance exercises.

Alzheimer's Support Group: Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. in the Yoga Studio at Ecumen Detroit Lakes.

Dunvilla Lions Club: The Dunvilla Lions Club will meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Dunn Township Hall.

Free hot meal: Stop into the Refuge every Thursday and Friday evening for a hot meal served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. The Refuge is located at 921 8th Street SE in Detroit Lakes.

The Caring Cup: Every second and last Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., community members who are dealing with the loss of a loved one meet at the David-Donehower Funeral Home for friendship, support and encouragement. The free program is open to the public, no registration necessary.

Women's Domestic Violence Education Support Group: Lakes Crisis & Resource Center hosts a Women's Domestic Violence Education Support Group every Wednesday from 5:30—6:30 p.m. in the crisis center. Call to pre-register at 218-847-8572 or 218-847-7446. Childcare is available upon request.

Rummikub, more games: Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., come to Holy Rosary fireplace room for coffee, desserts and a game of cards, board games or Rummikub. Everyone is welcome.

BC Senior Meals: Meals for persons 60 and older are served several times each week at nutrition sites in Detroit Lakes, Lake Park, Osage and Wolf Lake or can be delivered directly to homes in these communities, Frazee and Callaway, via the Meals on Wheels program. One-day advance notice of attendance is required at many sites. Preschool screening: Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services. Call Annie at 218-847-5628 ext. 5419 to make an appointment. This one screening will provide your child the requirements for Early Childhood Screening. Minnesota law requires each child attend a health and developmental screening before kindergarten.

Senior Center Activities: The DL Senior Citizens Center has activities all month long. Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. is Pinochle; at 1 p.m. there will be 500 and other games. Whist is played on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. The third Wednesday of each month will be a celebration of birthdays for the month. The second Monday of each month there will be a Site Council meeting at 11 a.m. For more information, call 847-5823.

Bingo for DL Hockey: The DL Youth Hockey organization holds Bingo every Sunday at Zorbaz in support of youth hockey in Detroit Lakes. All are welcome; Bingo starts at 6 p.m.
