Family Fun Day at the Museum: The Becker Museum's Family Fun Day has a science theme this month! Bring the family to the museum at 714 Summit Ave. in Detroit Lakes for some science fun, starting at 10 a.m. We will be experimenting, experiencing, and exploring the science that is all around us! Suitable for all ages. Admission is free-will donation for all families participating in Family Day activities.

Color Guard Breakfast: The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard will be hosting a breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Club. Suggested donation is $7 for a meal including scrambled eggs; pancakes or French toast; and sausage or bacon, plus beverage.

Holy Rosary Parish Festival: Lots of good food, games, live and silent auctions, and other family fun are planned for Holy Rosary Catholic Church’s annual Parish Festival, which takes place at the Holy Rosary Parish Center, 1043 Lake Ave., Detroit Lakes, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be an outdoor mass on the church lawn starting at 10 a.m. All festivities are free and open to the public.

Wildlife Movie: A free screening of the movie, "Beavers, the Biggest Dam Movie You Ever Saw!" will take place at 2 p.m. in the Visitor Center at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. This 38-minute film will allow you to take an intimate swim with beavers and experience the rich aquatic habitat of one of nature's greatest engineers. Bakke Lutheran Church BBQ Picnic: Come join the members of Bakke Lutheran Church for a picnic featuring grilled pork loin barbecue sandwiches with "all the fixins," plus games and fellowship, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is a free will offering. Bring your own lawn chair, as seating is limited. The church is located at 27492 County Highway 32, located six miles north of Detroit Lakes off Richwood Road (County Highway 21). Tree Troubles Workshop: Why is my red pine red and my white pine white? Join retired forest health specialist Alan Jones, for a close look at the pests and fungus that make our trees look sick. This free, two-hour workshop, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will examine the problems that can plague the health of the trees of the northwoods. Learn the key characteristics to look for on pine, birch and more. We'll also reveal which ones can be remedied and the ones that mean the demise of a tree. Old-Time Variety Dance: The Country Ramblers will provide the music for an Old-Time Variety Dance, set to take place from 1-4 p.m. at the White Pine Room in Frazee. A potluck supper will follow the dance. Admission is $5 per person.

Corn Feed: First Baptist Church, located at 300 Central St. East in Detroit Lakes, will host a corn feed from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring fresh corn, hot dogs, hamburgers and more, along with live music from the Benson Family Singers. Steak Fry: The First Zinger Squadron of American Legion Post 15 will be hosting a steak fry fundraiser starting at 5 p.m. in the American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Cost is $13 per plate; serving will continue until all the steak is gone.

Farmers Market Cooking Demonstration: Sara Vanofflan will be doing a live cooking demonstration at the Lakes Area Farmers Market, featuring vegetable spring rolls, starting at 10:30 a.m.

Frazee-Vergas High School Reunion: The Frazee-Vergas High School Class of 1971 will gather for a reunion at the Jon and Lola Bachmann home, 51862 County Highway 51, Frazee, starting at 2 p.m. A potluck supper will be held as part of the festivities. Spaghetti Feed & Silent Auction: A benefit to help defer the extensive medical bills of Ava (Crotts) and Rob Robinson will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Grace Community Church in Osage. There will be both a spaghetti feed and silent auction held as part of the benefit.

Roast Pork Dinner & Raffle: St. Theodore's Catholic Church of Ponsford will host a roast pork dinner and raffle to benefit various church projects. The all-you-can-eat dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and features homemade roast pork mashed potatoes, gravy, slaw salad, relishes, and freshly baked desserts. Right after the dinner, there will be a raffle featuring a hand-carved Minnesota Lady Slipper made by artist Sheila Hendrickson. Numerous other gift certificates and prizes will also be awarded throughout the afternoon. Cost is $9 per person for the dinner (kids under age 6 are admitted free of charge, while those under age 10 can eat for just $4).

Rotary Peach Sale: The Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club will host its annual Peach Sale on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17-18 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, in the Boys & Girls Club Thrift Store and old Kmart parking lots. Cost is $33 for a lug or $20 for a half lug. Come early, come often... we sell out quickly!

Plant, Pest & Gardening Clinics: The Becker County Master Gardeners will once again be hosting their Plant, Pest & Gardening Clinics throughout the month of June at the local University of Minnesota Extension office, 1120 Eighth St. SE, Detroit Lakes. Fair Hills Hootenanny: Every Tuesday from now through Aug. 21, Fair Hills Resort will be hosting a Hootenanny show filled with sing alongs, music, dancing, and skits. Make an evening of it; join us for a boat cruise on Pelican Lake aboard the Big Pelican at 5 p.m., followed by a smorgasbord dinner in the dining room at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m. in our lakeside Pavilion! Tuesdays in the Park: Every Tuesday from June through August, Habitat for Humanity will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, beans, potato salad and beverages in the Detroit Lakes City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. Following the meal, live music begins at 7 p.m. and lasts for approximately an hour, though some performers do continue to play a little later into the evening. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket, as bench seating is limited. In case of inclement weather, both the picnic and the concert will be moved inside the Pavilion.

Wild Wednesdays: Explore the world of nature with your child during this hour-long adventure geared for 3-7 year olds. Meets at Tamarac's Discovery Center every Wednesday this summer, June through August, starting at 10 a.m. For more information please contact Refuge staff at 218-847-2641.

Detroit Lakes Area Pickleball: The outdoor pickleball courts at Peoples Park in Detroit Lakes are now open for the season. Everyone is welcome to use one of the five outdoor courts, which are located just behind Zorbaz. They will be open to the public 24 hours a day, but scheduled play will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Monday through Saturday, as well as on Monday and Thursday evenings starting at 7 p.m. All skill levels welcome. Tamarac Wildlife Excursions: Explore Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of the refuge on this two hour driving tour. Shepherd of the Lakes Sunday Worship: Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church (LCMC) is now hosting Sunday worship services in Suite 15 of the Washington Square Mall, 808 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes, starting at 10 a.m. each Sunday. Fellowship with coffee and rolls will follow the service.

TOPS 1251 of Lake Park meets every Tuesday at the Lake Park Lutheran Church, with weigh-in starting at 12 noon, followed by the meeting at 12:30. L.A. Moms group: Lakes Area (L.A.) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A. Community Alliance Church programs: Community Alliance Church, Detroit Lakes, hosts Quilting for Missions Mondays at 9:30 a.m.; The first Tuesday of every month is High Mileage (suggested ages 55 and up), which meets for "pot-blessing" meal at noon, followed by special music and a Bible nugget.

Bone Builders: An exercise class for seniors called "Bone Builders" is being held at 405 W. Maple Ave. in Frazee, Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.; the Lake Park City Center every Tuesday and Friday at 10:15 a.m.; and also at the Vergas Event Center, Thursdays at 9:30.a.m. The group focuses on low-impact and balance exercises.

Alzheimer's Support Group: Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. in the Yoga Studio at Ecumen Detroit Lakes.

Dunvilla Lions Club: The Dunvilla Lions Club will meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Dunn Township Hall.

Free hot meal: Stop into the Refuge every Thursday and Friday evening for a hot meal served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. The Refuge is located at 921 8th Street SE in Detroit Lakes.

The Caring Cup: Every second and last Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., community members who are dealing with the loss of a loved one meet at the David-Donehower Funeral Home for friendship, support and encouragement. The free program is open to the public, no registration necessary.

Women's Domestic Violence Education Support Group: Lakes Crisis & Resource Center hosts a Women's Domestic Violence Education Support Group every Wednesday from 5:30—6:30 p.m. in the crisis center. Call to pre-register at 218-847-8572 or 218-847-7446. Childcare is available upon request.

BC Senior Meals: Meals for persons 60 and older are served several times each week at nutrition sites in Detroit Lakes, Lake Park, Osage and Wolf Lake or can be delivered directly to homes in these communities, Frazee and Callaway, via the Meals on Wheels program. One-day advance notice of attendance is required at many sites. Preschool screening: Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services. Call Annie at 218-847-5628 ext. 5419 to make an appointment. This one screening will provide your child the requirements for Early Childhood Screening. Minnesota law requires each child attend a health and developmental screening before kindergarten.

Senior Center Activities: The DL Senior Citizens Center has activities all month long. Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. is Pinochle; at 1 p.m. there will be 500 and other games. Whist is played on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. The third Wednesday of each month will be a celebration of birthdays for the month. Bingo for DL Hockey: The DL Youth Hockey organization holds Bingo every Sunday at Zorbaz in support of youth hockey in Detroit Lakes. All are welcome; Bingo starts at 6 p.m.

Birthing class: Essentia Health St. Mary's hosts childbirth preparation classes for expectant mothers in their sixth to seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include Labor & Delivery, Cesarean Birth, Role of the Labor Companion, Newborn Care, Unexpected Outcomes, Breast & Bottle Feeding, Postpartum Period, Breathing Patterns & Relaxation Techniques.
