Aquatic invasive species volunteer training

A DNR training session for people interested in being volunteer watercraft inspectors at public boat accesses on lakes is from 5 to 8 p.m. in Holiday Inn. The training is good for both this year and next year. Admission is free, but RSVP to Moriya Rufer at; 218-846-1465.

Bishop to visit

Herbert Chilstrom, first presiding bishop of the ELCA, is visiting Trinity Lutheran Church, DL, at 7:30 p.m. for a book signing. He will have his book "A Journey of Grace" and his daily devotional book "Every Morning New" will be available at the event.

North Country trail hike

For a North Country Trail hike, meet at 10 a.m. at the public access on Waboose Lake north of Nevis. The public access is accessed from Inner Forest Road. The hike is approximately 3 miles in the Paul Bunyan State Forest.

Genealogical society

Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. Tamarac Wildlife Refuge host a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac.

Ole Dahl Family Reunion

Calling all Dahls, Hopsteads, Joys, Cushings, Krehers, Sloans, Plewis', Gundrys, Berrys, Alms, Thoresons, Olsons, McMahons and their families. The 16th bi-annual reunion of the descendants of Ole and Oline Dahl who settled at Tamarac Lake in the 1890s is being held for the very first time in the Detroit Lakes area. The reunion runs from the afternoon of Aug. 10 through the morning of Aug. 13 at Height of Land Sportsmen's Club. For more information, email Gary at

Elbow-Tulaby fire dept. pig roast

The Elbow-Tulaby Lakes Fire Department hosts their 21st annual Pig Roast from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the fire hall located 18 miles east of Waubun on Hwy 113. Cost is $8 for ages 12 & over, $5 ages 6-11, and under 6 are free.

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity provides a picnic in the DL City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday in August. Come and have hamburgers, brats and hotdogs along with beans, potato salad and beverage. Free will offering benefits Habitat for Humanity and the Holmes Community Theater. A concert follows at 7 p.m. featuring folk singer Mark Fogelson in the Bandshell.
