• Candles & Carols: 4:30 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church, 1401 Madison Ave., Detroit Lakes. Christmas stories spun and carols sung by candlelight, followed by a homemade turkey dinner with all the trimmings, with proceeds to benefit the Becker County Food Pantry.

• "Behold the Star": 8:15 and 10:30 a.m., DL United Methodist Church, 885 Pembina Trail, Detroit Lakes. Christmas cantata featuring the DLUMC Adult Choir, directed by Diane Jordan and accompanied by Jane Ballard. A Christmas tea will follow both performances.

• "The Gift of Love": 4:30 p.m., Faith Lutheran Church, 24688 County Road 6, Detroit Lakes. Sunday school students perform their Christmas program.

• "A Celtic Holiday": 2 p.m., Fargo Theatre, 314 Broadway, Fargo. The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra presents its 2012 Holiday Pops Family Concert, with Celtic band Poitin as special guests. Tickets $18 for adults, $9 for students; general seating. Tickets at or at the door.


• Grand Opening for "Electrifying Minnesota": 1 to 3 p.m., Becker County Museum, 714 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Open house to celebrate the opening of the new Minnesota Historical Society traveling exhibit about the history of electric power in the state. Tuesday, Dec. 18


• Jingle Bells Holiday Concert: 6:30 p.m., Lincoln Education Center, Detroit Lakes. Tim Eggebraaten will perform. Hosted by Detroit Lakes Early Childhood Family Education; childcare providers and grandparents are welcome to bring children they care for. For more information, call 847-4418. Wednesday, Dec. 19


• Mini-Advent Concert: 12:30 p.m., First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Performing will be Russell Bunker and Paul Heisler, piano duo and Kathy Larson, vocalist. A soup and sandwich lunch will be hosted by the church following the concert, for a free-will offering. The public is invited to attend.

• Square Dancing: 7 to 9 p.m., IOOF Hall, 118 W. Holmes St., Detroit Lakes. Larry Johansen is the caller; hosted by Larry's Plus.

Thursday, Dec. 20


• Holiday Crafts for Kids: 3:45 to 5 p.m., Public Library, 1000 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes. Elementary-age kids and teens are invited to the DL Public Library to make holiday crafts.  Material will be provided for several holiday decorations.  Participants can choose to make one or more crafts to take home. • "The Bethlehem Project": 7 p.m., Faith Christian School, Detroit Lakes. Students present their annual holiday program. The public is invited to attend.

• Longest Night Music Festival: 7 p.m., Cultural Center, 24 Main Ave. N., New York Mills. Winter solstice concert featuring music, food and conversation, with guest musiciains David Stoddard, Fergus Falls; Elisa Korenne, Dave Virnala and John Perry, all of New York Mills; New York Mills Chief of Police Dave Van Schaick and Pelican Rapids newspaper editor Lou Hoglund.
