LPA High School sponsors three student teachers
Lake Park Audubon High School has sponsored three student teachers representing three different colleges this year.
Jade Arntson is a 2013 graduate of Ulen-Hitterdahl High School attending North Dakota State University in Fargo, majoring in family and consumer science (FACS) education with a minor in human development and family sciences.
When asked about her experience at LPA, Arntson responded, "student teaching at Lake Park Audubon has been a challenging and very rewarding experience. I have had a great mentor, Cheryl Hogie, and wonderful students. It has only strengthened my love of FACS education. I have learned and grown a lot as an educator and am excited to have my own classroom."
Daniel Melby is a 2014 graduate of Forest City, Iowa and is currently attending Concordia College in Moorhead with a major in instrumental education.
When asked about his time at LPA, Melby said it's been, "Phenomenal. The faculty and staff have been so welcoming throughout the semester. Mr. Liversage has been an amazing mentor and friend. I have had multiple opportunities to observe and teach, and he has had great advice through it all. The students have also been one of the best parts of my time at Lake Park. As the semester has progressed, I have learned more about each individual and their interests, and that has enhanced my experience here."
Brady Speicher is a 2013 graduate of Perham High School now attending Minnesota State University in Moorhead with a major in social studies education (with a primary emphasis in history and secondary emphasis in economics).
When asked about his experience at LPA, Brady stated, "It was exciting to put everything I learned at MSUM about education and social studies into action. I learned a lot about myself as a teacher, both my strengths and my weaknesses. This experience has solidified that I do truly want to pursue a career in education. I am looking forward to and am anxious to begin my career as a social studies teacher."
With diverse backgrounds and different college experiences, the three student teachers all hope to continue in the educational fields they have chosen and eventually pursue advanced degrees.
Students and faculty benefit from having student teachers.
"It forces us as experienced teachers to stretch and grow and move past our own comfort zones," stated Cheryl Hogie-LPA FACS teacher, "and that is a benefit to the educational process for all."
