David Lee Stensrud, 56, of 918½ Washington Ave., Apt. 1, Detroit Lakes, has now been formally charged with second degree murder in the death of 69-year-old Geraldine Kading, of rural Dent.

Kading was found, non-responsive, inside Stensrud’s apartment with an arrow protruding from her chest.

Officers also found Stensrud lying on the floor of a bedroom with an arrow protruding from his chest. There was a crossbow lying on the bed next to him.

According to the criminal complaint filed on April 17, officers had been called to Stensrud’s apartment just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, after receiving a report of a potential murder-suicide.

Stensrud had been unable to appear in court prior to Friday’s hearing, due to the injuries he sustained in the incident. He did not enter a plea Friday.

Stensrud is in custody pending his next scheduled court appearance, at a May 6 omnibus hearing. His bail was set at $1 million with conditions, or $2 million without.
