The 73rd annual Northwest Water Carnival concludes today (Sunday), with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., Inflatable Kids' Games starting at noon, a Classic Car Cruise at 12:45 p.m. and the Parade of the Northwest at 1 p.m. A complete schedule is available online at www.dlwatercarnival.com.

The Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center in Moorhead has teamed up with the North Dakota State University Medieval Society to host the second annual Viking Village, featuring medieval-era arts opportunities to try yourself. The event will take place today from noon to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and college students, $6 for youth ages 5-17, and free to all HHIC members. Activities and demonstrations planned for the celebration include: Viking Quest, a series of hands-on activities for kids; Viking food; linking chain mail; warp weighted loom; storytelling; Viking games (nine-man Morris, Kubbe, Dice); live combat demonstrations; live goats; and blacksmithing. Viking refreshments will be available.

Back by popular demand, the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 21 on the Historic Holmes Theatre stage in Detroit Lakes. The 2007-08 tour will mark the 29th year of continuous touring in the United States for the Golden Dragon Acrobats. With the company's main office based in Dallas, TX, the Golden Dragons have traveled around the world to all 50 states and to over 65 countries on five continents. The members of the current touring company, hailing from Hebei, China, have performed in all 48 lower U.S. states within the last four years to sold out audiences in nearly every major market in the country. The Golden Dragons remain the only Chinese acrobatic company touring year-round in the United States.

Local musician Robbin Bueng will be the featured artist at the Tuesdays in the Park summer concert series, which resumes this Tuesday, July 22 with a 7 p.m. performance at the Detroit Lakes City Park Bandshell (alternate location is the DL Pavilion in case of bad weather). There is no charge for admission.

Starting Wednesday, July 23 and continuing through Saturday, July 26 at the Soo Pass Ranch, in Minnesota's beautiful lakes region, the 6th annual 10,000 Lakes Festival will feature some of today's most innovative musical artists performing on five stages, including former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh & Friends, an all star lineup that changes from year to year, and former Grateful Dead drummer Micky Hart, touring with Steve Kimock on guitar and George Porter, Jr., former bassist with New Orleans' seminal funk band, the Meters, among others. The 2008 artist roster will also include the 10KLF debut of The Flaming Lips, Oklahoma's premiere alternative rock band. The 117th annual Becker County Fair begins Wednesday, July 23 with Entry Day, and continues through Saturday, July 26 at the Becker County Fairgrounds in Detroit Lakes. Come visit the fairgrounds on Rossman Avenue near West Lake Drive for classic summer fun, including everything from a carnival midway to livestock shows and exhibits to demolition derbies and live music entertainment.

Frazee's flagship festival, Turkey Days, gets underway Thursday, July 24 and continues through Sunday, July 27, with old favorites and some new events to keep the weekend fresh and fun. The 5th Annual Wayne Nelson Memorial Hidden Talent Show is at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24 in the Cormorant Community Center. Come for entertainment, fun and laughs. Enjoy music, fun, good food and drinks at The Lodge on Lake Detroit this Thursday, July 24. Pianist Jill Tessman will be the featured performer at the resort's Live at the Lodge concert series, from 7-10 p.m. There is no cover charge, though food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Lakes Area Community Concert Band rehearses from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24 in the Detroit Lakes Middle School band room. Doors will be open by 6:30. This will be the first of 3 rehearsals for the Aug. 12 concert in the park. Anyone interested in playing with the band is welcome. Bring a friend. Tickets for the PEO Garden Tour and Tea, "Tea by the Sea," on July 24 are on sale and can be purchased by calling Mary Nordmark at 846-1432. Cost is $25 for tour of four gardens and tea at the First Lutheran Church. Gardens can also be visited from 11 a.m. to 3p.m. for $2 at each garden.

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge offers a guided tour from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 25. Join one of the volunteer guides for an informative and fun adventure on the refuge. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac. Meet at the Visitor's Center.

Lake Park Day begins Saturday, July 26 with a citywide rummage sale; maps are available at local businesses. There is also the annual Men's Softball Tournament in Lake Park. Detroit Lakes' 30th annual Arts & Crafts in the Park takes place Sunday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the DL City Park. About 125 booths are set up in the shade of the park's beautiful pine and oak trees. You'll find treasures of all sorts, from paintings and pottery to furniture and fabric goods, while listening to live Ecuadorian music and feasting on a range of tasty foods.

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Discovering Tamarac History Tour from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 20. Join one of the volunteer guides for an informative and fun adventure on the refuge. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac. Meet at the Visitor's Center. For those who prefer to stay indoors, the Refuge will also host a screening of the movie "Chased by the Light" at 2 p.m. Learn how renowned photographer Jim Brandenburg renewed himself through a Zen-like exploration of his craft by taking just one photograph a day for 90 days.
