14-year-old hurt at rodeo in Nimrod
A 14-year-old bull riding participant suffered a serious head injury after being thrown from a bull Saturday, Sept. 3 near Nimrod.
Wadena County authorities said Sam Bell was taken to Tri-County Hospital in Wadena and then flown to a Twin Cities hospital after he suffered the injury at the Meech rodeo facility near Nimrod.
Bell's mother, Avis Estabrooks, told KARE 11 television that the boy was wearing a protective vest and a helmet, but was thrown from the bull, leaving Bell with bruising on the brain, broken ribs and damaged lungs. He was listed in critical condition at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
