BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A 17-year-old girl was shot Monday night near Bemidji and a man was in custody.

Authorities received a 911 call at about 10 p.m. Monday from the girl, who said she had been shot several times while standing on the deck of her home, according to a news release Tuesday from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

The girl was transported to a Duluth hospital after she was stabilized in Bemidji, the sheriff's office said.

A suspect, Chad Eric Pickering, 40, was arrested within minutes at his residence, two blocks from the victim’s home, the sheriff’s office said. He was booked into the Beltrami County Jail shortly after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

An investigation determined that Pickering had acted alone.
