2-year-old girl hit by car dies -- Toddler was struck while crossing University Drive in Fargo
FARGO - A 2-year-old girl has died after being struck by a car Monday night while crossing South University Drive at 25th Avenue.
Fargo police were notified Friday morning that Jasmine Rose Wilson of Fargo died at Sanford Medical Center, Lt. Joel Vettel said.
A death notice from Anderson Funeral Home in Twin Valley, Minn., stated that Jasmine died on Wednesday at the hospital.
An autopsy will be performed, Vettel said.
Fargo police hoped to conclude their investigatory work Friday, but they still must wait for autopsy results and the state crime lab's toxicology report on the car's driver before releasing details of the accident, Vettel said, adding that police have no reason to believe the driver had been drinking.
Vettel has said Jasmine was on foot and accompanied by an adult female in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when she was hit by the northbound car shortly after 9 p.m. Jasmine was taken to Essentia Health by ambulance and later transferred to Sanford.
Vettel said Thursday it appears the driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting the girl and that traffic signals appeared to have been working properly.
The driver of the car has not been cited or charged.
Funeral and visitation services for Jasmine will be Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Twin Valley.
