Pioneer Public Television’s 4-H at the Minnesota State Fair is a half hour long program that salutes young Minnesotans from across the state who are developing and displaying their talents through 4-H.

Produced with footage gathered at the 2013 State Fair, the program showcases activities from the 4-H building displays to the livestock barns on the southern edge of the fairgrounds.  The program, which first aired on November 17, 2013 is now available for viewing online at

Hosted by 4-H volunteer Libby Tate of Rosemount, this year’s show features interviews with Kate Harrington of Clay County, Kendra Davis of Freeborn County, Matt Hanson of Pennington County and Robert Brinker of Chisago County. In addition, the program captures footage of Kole Polzin, Stephanie Altenburg, Julia Cohrs, Branstyn Peterson and Lilli Young-Froehlich of Sibley County as they take 3rd place in the State Fair cooking contest.

4-Hers from 83 counties from throughout Minnesota attended the fair this year and brought 2,885 animals with them. One of the most photogenic of those animals is a heifer named Vixen who was exhibited by Kendra Davis of Freeborn County.

Davis was a winner of a 4-H livestock scholarship and is currently studying Animal Science at South Dakota State University.

Matt Hanson’s Ayrshire Heifer also features prominently in this year’s program. Hanson is majoring in Animal Science and Dairy production at the University of Minnesota.

Throughout the program, host Libby Tate reviews the philosophy and practices of the 4-H program and its family-centered “learn by doing” approach. According to Tate, nearly 6,000 Minnesota youth are involved with 4-H exhibits and animal shows at the fair. More than 320,000 fairgoers visit the 4-H building each year.

Major supporters for 4-H at the Minnesota State Fair include the CHS Foundation, Minnesota Farmers Union, Minnesota Corn Growers Association, Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation, and the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association.
