4-Her takes first in archery

The MN 4-H State Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational was held in Martin County, Sept. 7-9.

Six hundred and thirty four youth from 52 counties participated in the following events: Archery, BB gun, Standard Air Rifle, 3 Position Air Rifle, Air Pistol, .22 Rifle, Muzzleloading, Trap, Silhouette, Wildlife Calling, Skillathon and Conservation/Wildlife Displays throughout the weekend.

Youth had the opportunity to showcase their skills that have been learned throughout the past year, as they spend 15 or more hours working with a trained instructor in their discipline of interest.

Becker County was represented by six 4-H youth who all participated in archery. Teddy Schauer brought home the first place medal in Junior Class B. His sister, Maria Schauer, was the third place medalist in Junior Class C-Archery.

Other participants included Tory Fleming, 24th of in Junior Class B; Alexis Wendt, 44th in Junior Class C; Lane Ulmer, 27th in Intermediate Class C; and Andrew Wendt, 12 of 53 in Senior Class C.

The Minnesota 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Program began in the 1980s and has grown to over 4,000 4-H members and 500 adult leaders. To learn more about this program or any of the other 4-H project areas, contact the Becker County Extension Office at 218-846-7328.
