7th Judicial District judge appointed
A Clay County attorney will now be a district judge for the region. Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed Michelle Winkis-Lawson to the 7th Judicial District Court.
She is the chief assistant attorney for the civil division and had served as the interim Clay County Attorney. The other two finalists for the position were Becker County Attorney Mike Fritz and defense attorney Johnathan R. Judd of Moorhead.
Winkis-Lawson replaces Michael Kirk, who was appointed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals this year.
Minnesota's 7th Judicial District consists of Becker, Clay, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd and Wadena counties.
