9-year-old boy left home alone found wandering outside Eagan, Minn., bar late at night
A 9-year-old Burnsville, Minn., boy found wandering outside an Eagan bar late Friday told police he was looking for his parents, who left him home alone as they went out drinking, authorities said.
Police were called to Casper's Cherokee of Eagan, 4625 Nicols Road, about 11:45 p.m. after a report that the boy was walking around the parking lot. When found walking nearby along Cliff and Nicols roads, the boy told officers he was left home for more than an hour because his parents went to the bar, according to a police report.
He said that after his parents did not answer his telephone calls, he walked the six blocks to the bar to find them.
A Casper's bar manager told police the mother had been there earlier, but the father had not been.
Officers drove the boy home and saw the boy's mother, who was intoxicated, police said. She said she had just returned from Fitz's Bar & Grill in Eagan and that she thought the boy was with her father.
Another call to the boy's father went unanswered.
The case is being forwarded to Dakota County Social Services, who will work with police investigators to determine whether the parents, who are both 33, would face criminal charges, Eagan police said Monday.
