9,000 turkeys perish in fire
Around 9,000 turkeys died in a barn fire around 11:23 p.m. Wednesday near Pelican Rapids.
When first responders arrived at the scene, the barn was fully engulfed in flames, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
No one was injured in the fire, but the owner estimated that it was housing around 9,000 turkeys at the time. The turkeys were due to go to the market next week, according to the sheriff's office.
The total loss value of the barn and the turkeys is estimated between $500,000 and $750,000.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. An investigation is ongoing.
