Ag Brief: Ag pesticides accepted at county HHW facility
This year, Becker County Environmental Services and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture have teamed up to offer a new program called "Clean Sweep," which helps farmers and households to safely dispose of unwanted and unusable pesticides.
Through the Clean Sweep program, county residents will have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted agricultural pesticides by taking them to the Becker County Household Hazardous Waste Facility north of Detroit Lakes.
Pesticides that will be accepted at the facility include insecticides, fungicides, herbi- cides, rodenticides (rat poisons) and others in liquid, granular, powder, bait, paste and aerosal forms. Materials not accepted through this program include pesticide rinsate, tank mix, crop oils, adjuvants, fertilizer, treated seed, contaminated soil and empty containers.
There is no cost to bring your pesticides into the facility during scheduled hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday through the end of October, or at other times by appointment. The facility will begin offering weekly ag pesticide collections again in April.
