The Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council is seeking candidates for three elected positions on its board of directors. The council is responsible for directing the Minnesota wheat check-off dollars for wheat promotion and research activities.

Board members must be wheat producers willing to serve as leaders and advocates for the Minnesota wheat industry and to work to improve industry profitability and viability. Candidates must have shared in the profits and risk of loss from producing wheat during the current or preceding marketing year. Directors are elected to serve three year terms. The board meets approximately eight times throughout the year.

There are two positions open in Area 1 and one position open in Area 2 (which includes Becker County).

Area 1 includes the counties of Beltrami, Clearwater, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau.

Area 2 includes the counties of Becker, Carlton, Cass, Clay, Cook, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Itasca, Kanabec, Mahnomen, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pine, St. Louis, Todd, Traverse, Wadena and Wilkin.

Minnesota wheat producers who are interested in running for a board seat need to indicate their interest prior to Oct. 24. Interested candidates should contact Art Brandli, nominations committee chairman, at 218-386-2083 or email abrandli@wiktel.com.
