Akeley man injured, then booked, following alcohol-related crash
AKELEY - An Akeley man received minor injuries in an alcohol-related crash at the intersection of Hubbard County highways 4 and 40 Tuesday night.
The accident occurred after 6:30 p.m. in Lake Emma Township. The Hubbard County Sheriff's Department said Lance Kubat, 37, told them he started going off the road while he was westbound on Highway 40. He "overcor-rected, spun out into the north ditch and rolled," said Sheriff Frank Homer.
Kubat was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids, treated and released. He was then booked into the jail and released on his personal recognizance. Charges are pending.
The accident remains under investigation.
Homer expressed some frustration with the number of alcohol-related crashes his department has seen in the past week.
"These all could have been prevented," he said. "How do we open people's eyes as far as drinking and driving?"
