Alexandria police investigate accidental shooting
ALEXANDRIA - Alexandria police officers are investigating an apparent accidental shooting that happened early Saturday morning.
The police department received a 911 call just before 1 a.m. The caller reported that a man had accidentally shot himself in the left ankle area with a 38-caliber, semi-automatic handgun.
Police officers and North Ambulance responded to the scene at 810 Maple Street. They found an alert and conscious 29-year-old man who said that he had accidentally shot himself while he was inside the residence.
The man was transported to the Douglas County Hospital where he was treated for the injury.
Authorities are considering whether to press charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, according to Police Chief Rick Wyffels.
Because the investigation is ongoing, authorities have not released the individual's name.
