Alfred J. Honer Sr., 71, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his residence.

Alfred Jerome Honer was born to Frank and Anna Coleman Honer on May 29, 1943 in Perham. He grew up and attended country school near Dent.

On August 25, 1968 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Martinson. They made their home in Felton, where Alfred worked for the B&B Sheep Ranch. They later moved to Thief River Falls, and he worked for the Peterson-Biddick Turkey Farm.

They then moved to Detroit Lakes, where he worked for the Swift Turkey Plant, STS Trucking, and most recently for Primera Foods of Perham. Alfred retired in 2001.

Alfred enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, the outdoors, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving him are his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Alfred Honer Jr. and Allan (Jessica) Honer, both of Detroit Lakes; one daughter, Rebecca (Nicholas) Honer of Detroit Lakes; one grandson, Andrew; four granddaughters, Stephanie Honer, Melanie Honer, and Piper and Lily Hembre; three brothers, James Honer of Perham, Lawrence (Pearl) Honer of Breckenridge and Edward Honer of Perham; five sisters, Louise (Larry) Kempenich of Perham, Anna (Bud) Schmitt of Hawley, Ludwina Honer of Perham, Agnes Feltz, of Salem, Ore., and Evelyn Thornberg of Cayuga, N.D.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Frank Honer Jr. and Joseph Honer; and six sisters, Irene Honer, Marie Fairbanks, Luella Kempinice, Rose Zelenskie, Frances Honer and Katherine Christianson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31 at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
