Alice G. Korinta, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.
Alice G. Weum was born to Emil and Olga (Nelson) Weum on Aug. 18, 1919 in Flom, Minn. She was raised and educated in the Flom and Twin Valley area and in International Falls, Minn. Alice was proud of the fact that she spoke Norwegian in her early years. She had worked in the potato fields and as a nanny.
Alice married Raymond R. Korinta on July 31, 1942 in the parsonage of Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Flom. They farmed in rural Ogema, and she also sold Watkins products for many years. Raymond died in May 2002. Alice continued to live on the farm until entering St. Mary's Nursing Home in 2005.
Alice enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing bingo, card games, playing family games and embroidery. She was a member of Spring Creek Homemakers, the Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies Aide and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 9880. Alice always remembered birthdays and anniversaries.
Surviving Alice are her children, Allen (Barbara) Korinta of Ogema, Joyce (Robert) Jelle of Andover, Minn., Lois (Dale) Burfeind of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Donna (Donovan) Engle of Frazee; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brothers, Eldred Weum of Chehalis, Wash., and Gordon (Bonnie) Weum of Cottage Grove, Minn.; and sisters, Doris Pawlak of Detroit Lakes and Ruby (Mel) Rassmusen of Babbit, Minn.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Raymond Korinta Sr.; son, Raymond Korinta Jr.; brother, Archie; sisters, Delaine Peterson and Hazel Blauert; and one grandson, Bruce Burfeind.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. It will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waubun, with the Rev. Chad Peterson officiating. Interment will be in Asplund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Flom.
