The seventh annual Bethlehem Lutheran Church Family Carnival will not only offer games and prizes for kids, it's intended to bring out the child in all of us.

The carnival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 17, in the Frazee church. More than 300 people are expected to attend, and money raised from the carnival will support the church's preschool/daycare program.

Children will be able to enjoy one of the most popular games the carnival offers every year: the minnow race.

Adults can participate in a cakewalk, which so far, 60 church members plan to bake cakes for.

Each year, organizers of the event plan for the same popular activities, but also switch it up to add new and exciting ones.

One of the event organizers, Mary Jane Beyer, said the new games to be added this year include 711, tic tac toss, Frisbee golf and cream can toss.

Other activities include beanbag toss, race car derby, bingo for the adults, the wacky hair game and of course face painting.

"It's a fun thing for the family to come and enjoy together," Beyer said.

The family carnival is held in March or April every year, which is a good time for people to attend because it's too early to be outside and it's between sporting seasons, she added.

This year, it comes a little later than normal because of Easter break, but that won't stop the organizers from planning for more than the number of people who attended last year.

The fundraiser raised about $1,500 last year and is expecting to beat that amount this year.

A hot dog/sloppy Joe lunch will be served for $3 and the carnival costs $1 for four tickets.

Everyone will be a winner at the carnival with prizes awarded to all participants.

"It's a reasonable cost for a family to come and enjoy time together," Beyer said. "Part of it is supporting an effort in the community."
