Jan. 11 is Amelia Earhart Day. This date coincides with Ms. Earhart's solo flight across the Pacific Ocean in 1935, which made her the first person to accomplish that feat. Your library has materials on the subject for all age groups. Come into your library and learn more about Amelia Earhart!


"Night Flight: Amelia Earhart Crosses the Atlantic," by Robert Burleigh.

This children's book celebrates award-winning author Robert Burleigh capturing of Amelia Earhart's first solo flight across the Atlantic in 1932. She was only the second person to do this -- and the first woman. • Tuesday, Jan. 10: Crafter's Night, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Calling all crafters! All those who knit, quilt, crochet or practice any hand-craft! Bring your current project, and work along with us! Participants of all ability levels are welcome!

• Wednesday, Jan. 11: Wii Plus, 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The Nintendo Wii, plus puzzles and games (including TWISTER) are set up each Wednesday afternoon. Come hang out and play games. Includes light snacks.

• Wednesday, Jan. 11: Genealogy Help Night, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Come to open genealogy night for some one-on-one help! Staff will be available to assist you with our genealogy databases (Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest) and help with your genealogical conundrums.

• Thursday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 14: Storytime at 10:30 a.m.

• Thursday, Jan. 12: READ to a Dog, 3:30 p.m.

Each second and fourth Thursday afternoon a dog and trainer visit the library for reading sessions. Kids who read to a dog 10 times receive a free book.

• Saturday, Jan. 14: "Through the Artist's Eye," 11 a.m. to noon.

Artist Joan Knapp will speak on the topic "Composition: What to Look For and How to Do It." Knapp's work is currently being featured at the Detroit Lakes Library. She works in a variety of mediums including collage, photography and block printing. Event is free and all are welcome to attend.

Regular hours for the Detroit Lakes Library are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.
