Angels cruise past Dent in 1st round

ANGEL OUTFIELDER PHIL KIRCHNER dives for a blooper hit by a Dent batter Wednesday. Kirchner came up just short on his effort.

A Taylor Fuhs grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning was the finishing touch in the No. 2 Detroit Lakes Angels 12-0 victory over No. 7 Dent in the opening round of the Hi-10 League playoffs Wednesday.

Fuhs' deep shot flew over the right field fence, along with the Bulldogs' hope to keep the game close, as the Angels advanced to second round of play -- which was held Friday evening at Washington Ballpark against Bluffton.

The Angels' bats were busy earlier, as catcher Brandon Johnson had three RBIs in the first four innings, coming off a two-run double and one-run single, respectively.

Johnson finished going 3-4, while Fuhs was 3-4 with four RBIs. Chris Gilson added two hits and scored three times in the victory.

The early 4-0 cushion in the second inning was more than enough for starting pitcher Bryan Buhr, who tossed six shutout innings, giving up just four scattered hits.

Rob Cox cleaned up with a hitless seventh inning by Dent.

Wadena-Deer Creek downed Perham 6-5 Thursday in New York Mills, to advance in the winner's bracket of the double elimination tournament.
