Angels down Mets
A three-run home run by veteran Phil Kirchner put a four-run gap between the visiting Fargo Mets and the home team Detroit Lakes Angels Wednesday.
Kirchner’s blast in the bottom of the sixth inning opened up the game, as DL was clinging to a 3-2 advantage heading into the frame.
Nick Polejewski made his first start of the season on the mound for the Angels.
In the first inning, the Mets scored an unearned run, as the leadoff hitter reached on an error and would score from third on a wild pitch.
The Mets scored again in the second, as Mike Bernier walked to start the inning and would score on a two-out single by Casey Smith.
The Angels cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second, as Reed Oistad doubled to lead off the inning and would score on a Trevor Tappe sacrifice fly.
The next inning, the Angels tied the game as Phil Kirchner doubled with two outs and scored on a Doug Dickey double to deep left center.
The Mets scored an unearned run off of Reed Oistad in the 8 to make the final score 6-3.
Polejewski pitched the first four innings for the Angels, while Buhr pitched innings five through seven. Oistad came in for the eighth and Trevor Tappe picked up a save as he pitched the final frame.
Tom Poulson started for the Mets, but Morgan Schruff took the loss in relief.
