The Detroit Lakes Angels amateur baseball team had two homers by Nick Esala and Kirk McLeod to help their team over Sebeka 18-9 to advance in the 14C Regional tournament in Dent last Friday.

The Angels couldn’t hold the momentum Saturday, though, losing to Long Prairie 5-2, but stayed alive with a 6-4 win over Carlos.

Mason Swegarden pitched three scoreless innings in the opening tilt and left with an 8-0 lead, while the Angels had quality innings from Trevor Tappe, Connor McLeod and Doug Dickey.

On Saturday night, the Angels lost to Long Praire 5-2 with Brock Johnson taking the loss with seven innings of work.

Chris Gilson pitched the final two frames in the loss.

On Sunday the Angels defeated the Carlos Cougars 6-4. Swegarden went seven innings to pick up the win and Connor McLeod pitched the final two and earned the save.

DL will face Bluffton Friday at 8 p.m. in Perham (location of all 14C games) in an elimination game.

The victor will move on to face Bertha at 5 p.m. Saturday, with the winner advancing to state and the right to play for the 14C championship against Long Prairie later that evening.

Bertha beat Nimrod 4-1, but fell to Long Prairie 7-6 in the state berth game.

In Region 16C action, Pelican Rapids earned the first state berth, with Fergus Falls to await the winner of Urbank and Brandon for the play-in game.
