Anna Jokela

Anna Jokela, 85, Perham, died July 5, 2009, in the Perham Memorial Home in Perham.

Anna Bertina (Janke) Jokela was born on Nov. 23, 1923, at home in Runenberg Township, rural Menahga, Minn., to John and Ruth (Johnson) Eklund. Anna grew up and attended country school in Runenberg Township. On April 11, 1941, Anna was united in marriage to Howard Janke. They resided in Detroit Lakes and farmed in Evergreen from 1945 to 1973. They also owned and operated the South Shore Resort in Toad Lake from 1966 to 1974. On July 29, 1969, Howard passed away. On May 7, 1972, Anna was united in marriage to Walter "Wally" Jokela. They resided on the farm in Ever-green for one year then moved into Perham in 1973. Wally passed away March 7, 1983. Anna always enjoyed the farm, even with all of the hard work. She also enjoyed gardening, her flowers, cooking and baking. She especially loved taking care of her children. Anna resided at St. James Manor in Perham. Since October of 2005 Anna has made her home at the Perham Memorial Home.

Anna is survived by her daughters, Roslyn (Dale) Lubitz, Frazee; Diane Arthurs, Perham; Joan Ehlers, Champlin; her sons, Warren Janke, New York Mills, Calvin (Faye) Janke, Battle Lake, Randall (Violet) Janke, McGregor, Howard (Joan) Janke, Brainerd, Keith (Betty) Janke, Frazee, Jeffery (Chris) Janke, Frazee, Arden (Emily) Janke, Zimmerman; sisters, Mabel Hoogveld, Perham, Myrtle Marjama, Butte, Mont.; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and host of friends.

Preceding Anna in death were her parents; her husbands, Howard and Walter; brother, Alvin Eklund; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Janke; grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 10, 2009. The pallbearers were all of Anna's sons: Warren Janke, Calvin Janke, Randall Janke, Howard Janke, Keith Janke, Jeffrey Janke, and Arden Janke.

Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Evergreen.

Arrangements were provided by the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home in New York Mills.
