Anna Mae Thorpe was born to Andrew and Patrina (Berg) Thorpe on Feb. 7, 1916 in Callaway. She was raised in the Callaway area and attended school at District 44 in Hamden Township. She married Reuben Melby on May 28, 1939. Reuben and Anna made their home in Richwood until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1948.

Anna was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed baking cookies, doughnuts, and lefse. When family and friends visited they would often leave with "goodies" to take home to their own families to cherish. Anna loved spending time with her husband, going hunting and fishing and more often than not, would be the one bringing home the larger catch.

Anna was employed for 20 years with the Becker County Record and in addition, she would waitress for Mac's Inn at wedding dances. She also previously worked as a waitress for Bunnell's in Detroit Lakes.

Anna Mae will be remembered and missed by her two sons, Ronald Melby of Detroit Lakes and Richard (Linda) Melby of Granbury, Texas; daughter, Patricia (Ray) Warren of Newton Grove, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jerome Leegard and Lyle Thorpe; and one sister, Arlene Paulson.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Reuben; parents; stepfather and stepmother, Joe and Rena Leegard; two sisters, Violet and Gertrude; and two brothers, LeRoy Leegard and Ray Thorpe.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, in Richwood Lutheran Church near Detroit Lakes; there will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services. Burial will be in the Richwood Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The David-Donehower Funeral Home is serving the family. An online guestbook is available at www.daviddonehower.com.
