Are you ready for the terrors of Malice Creek Manor?
You are welcome to venture into Malice Creek Manor but don't come alone.
The manor is haunted and it is full of ghosts, monsters and other frightening aberrations that will scare you silly.
Joe Randall and Diane Vry of the Wadena VFW have joined forces with Wadena Fair Board Vice President Mike Olson in presenting this year's second annual fundraiser at the Wadena County Fairgrounds.
The trip through Malice Creek Manor will take visitors through a Halloween adventure of black, winding mineshafts, rooms where bloody heads dangle, bodies burn and insane asylum experiments are performed.
The hundreds of feet of black corridors also have secrets to hide. Living secrets that rock in chairs, reach out for you and beckon you journey deeper and deeper into Malice Creek Manor.
The project has been under way since the 2011 Wadena County Fair ended. Randall has been the chief creator of Malice Creek Manor with help from Olson, Vry, Ben and Darin Agaard and Brent Peters.
There will be 18-20 costumed actors in the manor to "greet" their guests.
Last year's first adventure drew 800 visitors.
Randall enjoys the hearing the screams and other reactions to his creations. He promises more thrills and spine-tingling chills this year but gives most of the credit to actors he recruited.
"If it wasn't for the actors it wouldn't be what it is," Randall said.
Randall had a difficult time finding people to act as the creepy residents of last year's haunted house but that hurdle was quickly crossed when they found out how much fun it was.
"It's addicting," said Vry, who wore one of the costumes last year. "We just sit around afterward and share stories."
Malice Creek Manor is not recommended for children under the age of 12.
The manor will be open from 8 p.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15; Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22 and Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28, 29 and 30.
The cost is $7 per person.
Organizers would like to plan for an adventure for children in coming years.
Funds go to the Wadena Fairgrounds which were hit hard by the June 2010 tornado that struck Wadena. Next year's Wadena County Fair will be held June 27-30.
