Area bikers in state qualifier
A BMX biker contingent from Detroit Lakes competed in the State Qualifier race at Rehbeins Race Track in Lino Lakes over last weekend.
There were three days of BMX biking racing, with Friday being the Race for Life, which benefits charities for a cure for leukemia.
Saturday was the state qualifier, which is one of three bikers need to qualify in to earn a spot in the state event, which is held towards the end of August.
Sunday featured the Redlight Cup, a qualifier for the national racing event.
Nine BMX'ers from the Detroit Lakes area competed and all earned qualifiers.
They raced in their own age divisions and skill level, which are Novice, Intermediate (eight wins) and Expert (25-plus wins).
Those making the trip and earning qualifying spots included Ron Blauert, Devin Lawrence, Mike Livdahl, Tyler Lawrence, Wyatt Heinlein, Garrett Kugler, Joe Heinlein, Tyler Myhre and Jaiden Disse.
The DL 412 BMX track will open its season later this spring, with race nights being held on Tuesdays.
Beginner clinics will be held the first three Wednesdays in June, while the DL track will hold its state qualifier July 11.
