Splash for Cash
The participants in the Washington Square Mall "Splash for Cash" event will take the plunge at 10 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. in the mall.
Link up with LINK
"Link Up with the LINK" from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Frazee High School Media Center. Mary Haney, Detroit Lakes Library Hub supervisor, will lead a class to link customers to the Frazee LINK Site via Lake Agassiz Regional Library's web catalog. Call Community Ed at 334-2525 to pre-register (course #6021) by Tuesday. This course is free and open to the public.
Thursday, Feb. 12
The Polar Fest Turkey Bowling event was postponed from Tuesday, Feb. 10 to Thursday, Feb. 12 due to bad weather. It will still be held at the St. Mary-Innovis Health North Campus parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Hot cocoa and chili will be on sale. Glacial Girls' Night Out
Come chill at a new Polar Fest event, Glacial Girls' Night Out, from 5-8 p.m. in the Holmes Ballroom at the Historic Holmes Theatre. There will be music by guitarist Matt Velline, shopping, prizes, food, drinks and more! The event is sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Downtown Business Association and the Holmes Theatre. Darius Rucker concert
Former lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker comes to Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino for an 8 p.m. show on Thursday, Feb. 12. Tickets may be purchased at the casino box office, online at www.starcasino.com or by phone at 800-313-7469.

Ice Tee Golf Tournament
If you think winter means you have to say goodbye to your favorite summer pastime, this event is for you! Get your friends and co-workers together and join us for the third annual DLCCC Ice Tee Golf Tournament. Play nine frozen holes on Big Detroit Lake. Come early for registration and a free lunch at noon at Zorbaz, then tee off on the lake at 1 p.m. The cost is $100 per 4-person team, and each member gets a free knit hat! Daddy's Little Sweetheart Dance
The fourth annual Daddy's Little Sweetheart Dance, set for 6 p.m. at the Historic Holmes Theatre, is a dream-come-true for daughters and their dads, grandfathers, uncles or special friends. Geared to girls ages 2 - 12, this father daughter sweetheart dance creates wonderful memories! A father and daughter Valentine dance is from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lake Park Audubon Elementary Gymnasium for K-6th grade. It is sponsored by Lake Park Audubon Community Education.
"The Emigrants," a 1971 Swedish epic film by director Jan Troell, will be screened at 7 p.m. in the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. The film stars Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow. No admission charge.

Freeze Your Buns Run
The annual 5K "Freeze Your Buns" Walk/Run begins with registration at 8 a.m., and the run gets underway at 9 a.m. The first 100 people registered receive a limited edition Freeze Your Buns stocking hat. Cost is $12 before Feb. 13 and $15 after Feb. 13. Stop by the DLCCC or call 218-844-4221 to request a brochure.
Great Polar Race
This first ever fun-filled winter adventure will send you racing around Detroit Lakes searching for clues and performing team challenges such as puzzles, physical feats, brain teasers, scavenger hunts and more! Compete for great prizes donated by area businesses. All participants get a free t-shirt. All ages welcome! Starts at 9 a.m. in the Washington Square Mall. The Hubbard County Historical Society hosts its second annual Sweetheart Dinner at 6 p.m. in the Northwoods Bank Community Room in Park Rapids. There will be prizes and a few rounds of "Be Mine" bingo. This Valentine's Day potluck is open to the public. There is no cost, just bring a dish to share. The Polar Plunge
Polar Fest's signature event, the 13th annual Polar Plunge, gets underway at 1 p.m. on Little Detroit Lake, across from Lakeside Tavern in Detroit Lakes. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Each jumper will receive a $25 Lakeside gift certificate and t-shirt, and there will be a prize drawing for participants as well as a costume contest.
Jazz Arts Big Band
Jazz Arts Big Band presents pianist Michael Kocour, performing an Oscar Peterson Tribute, at 8 p.m. in the Fargo Theatre, 314 Broadway, Fargo. The first 100 women will receive a free rose. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students. Call 218-359-4JAZZ for more information.

Square dance benefit
A square dance benefit for Pete (who lost his trailer) will be held from 2-5 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes IOOF Hall.
Detroit Lakes Jaycees' Supershots, a basketball skills competition for youth in grades 4-9, is today in the DL Community and Cultural Center. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m., followed by competition at 3 p.m. Parent or guardian signature required for all participants. Museum open house
The Becker County Historical Society Museum, located next door to the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center (across the parking lot from the Holmes Theatre) will host an open house from 1-4 p.m. in conjunction with Polar Fest.

Detroit Lakes Library's book discussion group meets at 3 p.m. to discuss the book Undiscovered Country by Lin Enger. Book discussion groups are a great way to get to know other people in the community, share ideas and learn from each other. Online database class
Explore Lake Agassiz Regional Library's Web catalog and online databases from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Detroit Lakes Library. Participants will set-up an online account and learn how to search for and request materials through LARL's web catalog. In addition, learn to navigate the limitless resources found in LARL's numerous online databases. Learn to research genealogy, investments, car repair and grant seeking... just to name a few. Class size is limited, please call Detroit Lakes Library pre-register.
Wednesday, Feb. 18
Johansson och det starka bandet, a Swedish band from Goteborg on the Swedish west coast, will give an emigrant-themed concert at 7:30 p.m. in the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. Tickets are $12 on the evening of the concert or $10 advance sale; students will be admitted for $5 and youth age 12 and under will receive free admission. 'Get Crafty' class
