Area QDMA holds first ever banquet
The newly formed Mid-Minnesota branch of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) held its first banquet on Aug. 2, at the Cormorant Lakes Sportsman's Club, south of Audubon. The event kicked off at 3 p.m. with the 115 members who attended the event receiving a gift bag valued at over $50 from sponsors. Events included a silent auction, live auction, big buck scoring contest, raffle prizes, and door prizes. The guest speaker was Kevin Harrington, the Midwest Regional Director for the QDMA, who talked about the purpose and progress of the organization.
Each participant receives a membership in the QDMA, magazine, and involvement with others who value deer and deer habitat. The QDMA involves the production of quality deer, quality deer habitat, quality hunting experiences, and most importantly, quality hunters. The QDMA promotes:
Safe and ethical hunting.
n Adherence to wildlife and trespass laws.
n Adequate harvest of adult does.
n Restraint in harvesting young bucks.
n Hunter involvement in education and management.
n Cooperation with wildlife biologists and enforcement officers.
n Education of hunters and non-hunters toward a better understanding of wildlife management.
n Stewardship and appreciation of all wildlife.
The Mid-Minnesota Branch of the QDMA encourages anyone interested in deer and deer management to contact them and get involved.
