Officers responded at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday to The Northern Gentlemen’s Club at 325 10th St. N. Deputy Chief Pat Claus said what started as a conversation about the military deteriorated into an argument and finally a physical fight between the men outside the club’s front door.

Brandon Lee Schmidt, 21, of Moorhead, allegedly pulled a knife during the fight and stabbed the 27-year-old victim, who suffered a “fairly significant” laceration to his forearm, Claus said.

Several witnesses tried to intervene, and an off-duty Northern employee was able to gain control of the knife, Claus said.

Schmidt was arrested and charged Monday in Cass County District Court with aggravated assault, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison upon conviction.

The victim was taken by F-M Ambulance to a hospital with two cuts to the arm, neither believed to be life-threatening, Claus said.
