Arleigh Vilas Sr.

Arleigh Wayne John Vilas Sr., 48, Glyndon, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, in Innovis Health, Fargo, N.D. A private family ceremony was held Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010.

Arleigh W.J. Vilas Sr. was born to Vienna Gordon (Vilas) and Louis F. Butcher Sr. on July 11, 1962, in Park Rapids. After attending high school in Detroit Lakes, Arleigh went on to graduate from electrician school in Waubun and completed four years of college at Bemidji State University. During his college years, Arleigh traveled across Europe attending Oxford University and became a fourth degree black belt in tae kwon do. Arleigh enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, movies and will be remembered for his great sense of humor often joking and teasing with family and friends, but all in good spirit.

Surviving Arleigh is mother Vienna Gordon, Waubun; special friend, Rose King, Redby, Minn.; six children, Kaylee Mae Thunstrom, Arizona, Ryan Brown, Fargo, Arleigh Vilas Jr., Waubun, Tashina Vilas, Bemidji, Dray Sargent, Duluth, and Kennedy Vilas, Bemidji, and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his siblings Robert Vilas III, Moorhead, Cheryl (Darwin) Jendro, Glyndon, Laureen Vilas (Terry), Waubun, Charlene Gordon, Callaway, LeRoy (Esmeralda) Gordon, Enderlin, N.D., Kathaleen Bristlin, Aberdeen, S.D., Joel (Sue) Privette, Ponsford, Steve (Stephanie) Shively, Iowa, Rob (Lorilei) Hilgren, Minneapolis, Dustin Mason and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Arleigh in death were his father Louis F. Butcher; daughter, Fallon Vilas; brothers, Louis Butcher Jr., Paulson Butcher, Andrea and Gary Butcher; Uncle Rodney Vilas and Aunt Yvette Vilas.
