Armed robbery sets off search at MSUM
MOORHEAD -- Police were hunting for three men who robbed a Moorhead apartment at gunpoint Sunday night.
Lt. Tory Jacobson said a report of a robbery at 908 8th St. S. was received by Moorhead police about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Witnesses told police that three men dressed in black wearing masks and holding multiple guns - at least one shotgun and one pistol - knocked on the door of the first-floor apartment and forced their way inside.
Jacobson said none of the residents were injured, and he wasn't sure what was taken. The suspects were described as being about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, he said.
Police were using dogs to track the suspects but were still looking as of 10 p.m., Jacobson said.
Prompted by the reported armed robbery, Minnesota State University Moorhead locked all campus buildings about 8:45 p.m., said Dylan Bradt, an MSUM security dispatcher.
A text message was sent to MSUM students shortly before 9 p.m. indicating that the three suspects were last seen running to the southeast of the apartment complex just south of Prairie Home Cemetery. The text message said the suspects had a shotgun, a handgun and a green backpack.
Concordia College also sent out an emergency alert to students via text message and e-mail, urging them to take extra caution and lock their doors, according to Amy Kelly, media relations director at Concordia.
The east edge of the Concordia campus is right across Eighth Street South from the apartment complex where the robbery was reported.
MSUM sent a text message to students at 10:35 p.m. that said police gave an "all clear." The suspects were still at large but likely not in the MSUM area, the text message said.
