Arnold O. Solum, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Arnold was born to Knute and Esther (Leegard) Solum on June 19, 1926, near Callaway. He lived on the family farm, until he enlisted into the United States Army. He was part of the 2nd Infantry Division.
Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Arnold moved to West Fargo and worked for Armour Meat Company for a few years in the freezer department. He also helped area farmers during harvest.
Arnold eventually returned to Detroit Lakes and worked for Nodsle Construction, until his retirement in 1979 due to health problems.
Arnold is survived by his sister, Blanche Englund of Detroit Lakes; along with his nieces and nephews.
Preceding Arnold in death were his parents; sisters, LaVern Solum, Alvina Lemon and Alette Arneson; and brothers, Clifford and Lawrence Solum.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Interment is in Richwood Lutheran Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
