Arthur G. "Red" Haverkamp, 86, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing.
Arthur was born to Herman and Mary (Clucky) Haverkamp on November 8, 1927 in Ogema. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. In 1948, he moved from Detroit Lakes to Hibbing. He entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Dorothy Mae Olson on April 3, 1948 in Hibbing.
Arthur was employed with Shell Tire Service, retiring in 1989 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing. His pastimes included craftwork, hunting and fishing, he loved the outdoors. Arthur also had a hobby farm until 2005.
Surviving Arthur are his wife, Dorothy Mae Haverkamp, daughter, Fayette (Gerald) Gibson and son, Philip Haverkamp, all of Hibbing; one sister, Rita Brekke of Fergus Falls; three grandchildren, Crystal Dombrovske, Travis (Nikki Rose) Gibson and Donovan Gibson; and four great grandchildren, Fanci Williams, Sir Williams, Ceelie Gibson and Channer Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; six sisters, Melverna Pfeiffer, Marie Heinen, Mildred Brant, Evelyn DeVoe, Joyann Jerdee and Ora Mae Peterson; and five brothers, Ivan, Wilbert, Harlo, Irvin and Lawrence Haverkamp.
Funeral services for Arthur will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hibbing. The Rev. Father Brian Lederer will celebrate the mass of Christian burial. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Friday.
