Audubon couple are county's 'Conservationists of the Year'
Bruce and Jean Hein were recently honored as local conservationists of the year at the annual meeting of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Dec. 2-4 in Rochester, Minn. They were selected by the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for the award.
Each year, the state's SWCDs recognize individuals and organizations for outstanding accomplishments in implementing conservation practices and improving Minnesota's natural resources. The award program is conducted with support from The Farmer magazine.
According to Becker County SWCD Chairman Jerome Flottemesch, the Heins were recognized for a variety of reasons. They installed four sediment and erosion control basins in 2006, as well as 65 acres of grassed buffers and 250 acres planted with no-till seeding.
