Audubon teen accused of leading DL police on short chase in stolen pickup, pulling boat on trailer
A 17-year-old Audubon boy was arrested and faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing a pickup truck, boat and trailer early Thursday morning and leading Detroit Lakes police on a short chase that ended with him smashing into a tree on West Avenue.
The pickup and boat were reported stolen at 12:22 a.m. Thursday from a residence on the 600 block of Sixth Street in Audubon.
At about 11 p.m. Thursday, Detroit Lakes police saw the pickup and boat near the Washington Square Mall parking lot and pursued for a few blocks until the truck hit a tree on West Avenue.
The driver was alone in the truck and was not seriously injured, although he was reportedly intoxicated.
The boy faces charges of motor vehicle theft, theft of the boat and fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, according to Detroit Lakes Police Investigator Chad Jutz.
