Authorities ID elderly couple killed in Iron River, Minn.; son in custody

An elderly couple was killed in their apartment in Iron River on Saturday evening, and officials on Sunday said their son is the sole suspect.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office on Sunday evening identified the victims as Jim Crain, 79, and Eunice "Crickett" Crain, 76.

Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an altercation in progress at the apartment on North George Street at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Responding deputies located the Crains deceased in the home. The Crains' 44-year-old son was found in the residence and was arrested and transported to a Duluth hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is being held under guard.

Authorities are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

Autopsies are being conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office in Minneapolis.
