Bail set in assault case
A rural Waubun man appeared last week in Becker County District Court on felony charges of first degree burglary (two counts) and domestic assault (two counts).
Nakoa Neeland, 35, of 39114 County Road 15, Waubun, is accused of breaking into the home of a former girlfriend, shortly after midnight on Aug. 6, 2013, and assaulting her.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman reported that she had been awakened by the sound of Neeland pounding on her bedroom window, which he allegedly broke, then went over to the front door and kicked it in before coming inside, without permission.
He then allegedly punched and kicked her several times in the head, only stopping after she informed him that she had called 911. He then reportedly swore at her and threw a chair through the dining room window before fleeing the scene.
Neeland is currently in custody at the Becker County Jail pending his next court appearance, at a Feb. 24 omnibus hearing. His bail was set at $100,000; a domestic abuse no contact order was also issued, prohibiting him from having any contact with the victim.
