Barbara Dutton

Nov. 6, 1930-Feb. 16, 1928

Barbara A. Dutton, 77, of Remer, Minn., died Saturday, Feb-ruary 16, 2008 at the Cuyuna Range Medical Center.

Barbara Ann Fehr was born to Albert and Ann (Johnson) Fehr on Nov. 6, 1930 in St. Paul. She moved with her parents and older brother, Jack, to Washburn Lake near Outing, Minn., after her fam-ily purchased the Washburn Point Lodge in 1934. Barbara attended country school near Remer, Minn., and graduated from Remer High School in 1949.

While doing clerical work for the Colorado State 4-H office at Colorado Springs, Colo., Barbara met Howard Dutton, a student at the College of Forestry. They were married Aug. 7, 1954 at the Outing Community Church. Bar-bara and Howard lived in various locations in the United States while he completed his service with the U.S. Army, before return-ing to Minnesota and purchasing the family resort from her mother in 1958. From then until the time of her death they continued to live on Washburn Lake, operating the resort, raising their three sons and enjoying the many friendships with guests, lake neighbors and others in the Outing and Remer communities.

Barbara's focus and service in the community was primarily at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Outing, where she served on a variety of committees, participated in Women's Circle, and was a member of the Church Council as treasurer for 37 years.

Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who loved beinga part of anything her children and grandchildren were doing, whether it be an athletic event or a musical event. She spent many an hour on the bleachers or in an auditorium. Barbara also loved fishing -- whether on the water or through the ice, her Springer span-iels, and visiting over coffee with the many friends who "just stopped by."

Barbara is survived by her hus-band, Howard Dutton of Remer, Minn; her sons, Wade (Holly) Dutton of Detroit Lakes, Brett (Kristi) Dutton of Baxter, Minn., and Shawn (Jan) Dutton of St. Michael, Minn.; eight grandchil-dren; and many friends in the community.

A celebration of Barbara's life and resurrection will be held at Our Savior's in Outing at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, with visitation one hour preceding the service. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Emily, Minn.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby, Minn. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred sent to the Barbara A. Dutton Memorial Fund.
